13. Security

This chapter attempts to deal with perhaps the most complex and difficult topic in the network design. Many designers tend to leave security as an afterthought, to leave it for last, or to view it as something distinct from the overall network design. It may indeed be appropriate to tackle security late in the design process, because you need to know what the network is that you are securing; however, it is a bad idea to shortchange this part of the design process.
