Prerequisites

  • You will require a copy of Power BI Desktop which can be downloaded for free from: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/desktop/

  • You will also need to sign up to the Power BI Service, which is also free. Please note that you must use a work email account. Gmail, Hotmail and other similar free email providers can not be used. When you sign up you may get a message saying that your system administrator needs to activate your Power BI account. In that case, please contact your system administrator.

  • You should be able to work with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet programs and understand the principles of working with data.

  • Please also download the Training data sets.

Section 4 - Filtering Data and using Slicers in Reports (60 min)

  • Using Slicers to filter your reports
  • Visual filters to filter individual visualizations
  • Lab 3: Create an interactive dashboard

Day 2

Section 5 - Connect Data and Transformation with the Query Editor (50 min)

  • Load data into the Query Editor
  • Perform transformations – Remove columns, change data types, rename columns, create new calculations and format data
  • Lab 4: Load Data into Power BI and perform basic transformations

Section 6 - Data Modeling and DAX Formulas (50 min)

  • Create a data model
  • Develop DAX Calculated Columns

  • Lab 5: Create a data model with Calculated columns and a measure

Section 7 - Publishing Reports and Configuring the Power BI Service (50 min)

  • Publish the Interactive Dashboard to the Power BI Service
  • Creating dashboards and mobile access
  • Using App Workplaces and creating App
  • Lab 6: Publish a dashboard to the Power BI Service and create a dashboard

Section 8 - Natural Language Queries and Connecting to Excel (45 min)

  • Using Q&A
