Kubernetes is taking over IT. No matter if you're using cloud or IT in your own datacenter, Kubernetes can be used to offer IT workload in orchestrated containers. This course prepares you for the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) exam, which is the standard Kubernetes certification. Certified Kubernetes Administrator is the perfect follow up to the CKAD exam. In CKA, candidates will be tested on their ability to build Kubernetes clusters and configure advanced features, such as networking, storage and scheduling, apart from the tasks that focus on managing Kubernetes based workloads. You will focus on the skills required to be a successful Kubernetes Administrator.

In this training participants will learn about the basic skills that are required to pass the CKA exam.

Prerequisites

  • If you do not have container knowledge it is recommended that you first take Sander van Vugt’s "Managing Containers on Linux” live training course.
  • To acquire more insight in Kubernetes fundamentals, students are recommended to attend the CKAD Crash Course Live Training by Sander van Vugt on this platform.

Course Set-up:

  • To work through the labs in this course, the course participant needs to install and configure his own lab environment. This environment consists of 3 virtual machines, each running CentOS 7.x. A guided installation will be done in the course.

If an attendee has no experience with Linux, please watch Linux Fundamentals

About your instructor

  • Sander van Vugt started working with Linux in 1992. He wrote his first book about Linux in 1999, and up to date has completed 62 different books on Linux related topics, including the best selling RHCSA/RHCE 7 Cert Guide. Sander is the author of over 20 Linux related video courses. He also works as a Linux instructor, teaching on-site and on-line classes for customers around the world.

Schedule

The timeframes are only estimates and may vary according to how the class is progressing

Day 1:

Segment 1: Kubernetes Quick Overview (1 hour)

  • Instructor will discuss why Kubernetes is taking over the corporate datacenter, and in which different ways it is used
  • 10 minute break

Segment 2: Creating a Kubernetes Cluster with kubeadm (30 minutes)

  • Instructor will explain how to use kubeadm to build a Kubernetes cluster
  • 10 minute break

Segment 3: Kubernetes Fundamentals Overview (2 hours with a break at top of each hour)

  • Students will learn how to use kubectl and YAML manifest files to manage Kubernetes Deployments, how to expose deployments and how to manage persistent storage in a Kubernetes environment

Day 2:

Segment 4: Managing Kubernetes Clusters and scheduling (1 hour)

  • Students will learn about essential Kubernetes Cluster management tasks
  • 10 minute break

Segment 5: Logging Monitoring and Troubleshooting (40 minutes)

  • Students will learn how to monitor and troubleshoot resources in a Kubernetes environment.
  • 10 minute break

Segment 6: Managing Networking (40 minutes)

  • Instructor will explain how to manage networking in a Kubernetes environment
  • 10 minute break

Segment 7: Managing Security Settings (30 minutes)

  • Students will learn how to manage Kubernetes security settings

Segment 8: Sample exam questions and answers (40 minutes)

  • Instructor will discuss some sample exam questions and answers
