JIRA 8 for Users and Managers

This training aims to give hands on exposure to techniques that’s used with JIRA to create tasks, track issues, generate reports and agile project management. We will start with a brief introduction of JIRA and then explore the entire JIRA workspace. You will then understand the procedure to create issues/tickets and the ways it can be managed in. Moving further, you will learn basic and advanced search techniques for issues/tickets. You will be able to apply several constraints for segregation purposes. We will explore the Issue Navigator. Adding to this, you will learn to export data in several formats like RSS, XML, HTML, CSV, Word.

Later, you will learn about Agile, its terminologies, Scrum and Kanban methods. We will also cover JIRA Service Desk. Moving further, you will generate reports such as Scrum Project Report, Jira Service Desk Report, Jira core Report. You will be able to generate several types of reports and charts such as Burndown Chart, Velocity Chart, Control Chart, Pie Chart Report, Resolution Time Report, Created vs Resolved Issues Report, User Workload Report, Time Tracking Report, Cumulative Flow Diagram, Workload Pie Chart Report. The final topic will help you understand the techniques and ways in which you can customize your dashboard.

After the session, as a User or Manager, you will be confident of using JIRA tool in your organization, which will ultimately optimize your tracking and report generation process.

Prerequisites

  • Java JDK 1.8 should be installed on the system.
  • JIRA should be installed on the system and the user should have Project Administration right (Steps are mentioned under Materials and Downloads).
  • User should have any one browser among Safari, Chrome, Firefox or latest version of IE or Edge installed.

Materials, downloads, or Supplemental Content needed in advance:

  • JIRA 8 Download URL: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/download
  • Install JIRA using the steps provided in the URL as per your Operating System: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/installing-jira-applications-938846823.html
  • Visit the above URL and follow the steps for your Operating System.
  • Under “Install a Jira application”, begin from Step 2, as you will have already downloaded JIRA software using JIRA 8 Download URL above.
  • For the 4th step, “Connect to your database”, you can continue by selecting the “Built In” option.
  • For the 6th step, “Enter your License”, you will be prompted to sign up and login to my.atlassian.com. Once logged in, select the Product as “JIRA Software” and enter the Server ID to generate the license. You will get the Server ID in the 6th step (Enter your License) in the JIRA Application set up window. Once the license is generated, paste it in the JIRA Application set up window.
  • Note - You can download and use JIRA software for free in the trial period of 30 days. The trial period starts once you generate the evaluation license on my.atlassian.com.
  • Hence, generate the license 20-25 days before the training session.

About your instructor

  • Satyendra Narwane is a post-graduate with master's in computer science from one of India’s premier university. Currently, he is working as a Sr. Manager- Atlassian ALM Practice in Dynamic Network Factory (US). He has conducted various seminars on behalf of Atlassian for promoting their tools in India. He has developed dozens of custom add-ons, based on customer needs. He has provided training, administration & add-on development on Atlassian suite for top companies such as Oracle, Adobe, Mercedes Benz, Sophos, HCL, MillenniumIT, Flipkart, Myntra, ShipNet NS, KBC Bank.
